The Kansas Council on Economic
Education and its partners are nearing completion of a ground-breaking personal
finance/economics curriculum for the K-8 grade classroom.
Financial Foundations for Kansas Kids is
a comprehensive set of standards-based, interactive computer
courseware lessons that integrate personal financial literacy and its
underlying economic principles into the language arts and math curriculums.
Upon delivery of the beta
version in October 2005, the courseware will contain a total of
28 hours of interactive learning for
students in grades K-2, 3-5, and 6-8. Each
of the 78 lessons will provide approximately
20 - 50 minutes of instructional time and will include engaging, age appropriate
presentation of subject matter, and interactive activities including
178 math exercises.
All elementary schools
and middle schools in Kansas will receive the courseware
free-of-charge! If your school has a membership to
Kan-Ed Empowered Desktop then you may already have access to the resource.
Look for the little pink pig.
