Financial Fitness & Social Studies Extravaganzas

The Kansas Council for Economic Education, in partnership with the Center for Economic Education at Wichita State University is pleased to again offer our annual workshops at Wichita State University.

Financial Fitness Extravaganza – June 17 & 18

Topics to be covered include:

  • Avoiding Scams
  • Entrepreneurship
  • Saving for College
  • Building your credit history
  • Safe Investing
  • Insurance for Teens
  • The Business & Economics of Sustainability

Economic Perspectives in U.S. History, Civics & Government – June 18 & 19

Topics to be covered include:

  • Standards of living
  • Economic institutions
  • Reasons for trade
  • Trade barriers
  • Exchange rate determination
  • Impact of trade – globally, nationally, per state / region
  • Trade alliances
  • The role of Kansas in the global economy
  • How railroads shaped the Kansas economy

Day two of the Economic Perspectives workshop will be provided by Don Fell and the Foundation for Teaching Economics. Participants on June 19 who attend the entire day’s training and complete the course evaluation will be eligible for a $100 stipend. Attendance is limited to 30 teachers.

This year, the sessions will run back-to-back so that we can offer 2 workshops in 3 days! Teachers can sign up for one or both workshops.

These workshops offer:

  • Graduate Credit from Wichita State for those who qualify.
  • Housing on campus at Wichita State (must RSVP by June 10)
  • Meals (breakfast/lunch) and snacks
  • Hands-on, standards-based lesson plans and supplemental materials

Your $10 registration fee will be refunded in full on-site upon completion of the workshop(s) you attend. Graduate credit is available from WSU with scholarships for the full price of tuition available for those who qualify on a first-come, first-served basis. These are available for certified Kansas teachers who teach economics, social studies, personal finance, or related topics.
